FALL RIVER, Jan. 3-Edward J. Leary, city editor of the Evening Herald and later the Herald-News for over 25 years, died today at his home here after a prolonged illness. In addition to his newspaper work he served as a member of the registrars of voters for several years. He was a charter member of Fall River council, Knights of Columbus, and also a member of Fall River lodge of Elks. He is survived by a widow, a daughter, two sons, two sisters and two brothers.

FALL RIVER-Jan. 5--The funeral of Edward J. Leary, city editor of the Herald News, was held today from his late home on Plymouth avenue followed by a solemn high mass of requiem at SS. Peter and Paul's Church at 10 A.M. There were large delegations present representing the newspapers of this city. Public officials, members of the Fall River lodge of Elks, Fall River council Knights of Columbus and the SS. Peter and Paul's Holy Name Society.

Edward J. Leary and Mary E. Newman, daughter of Robert J. and Ellen (McCarthy) Newman were married on October 16, 1899 in Fall River, MA.
