Rites Held for Stan Koss

Funeral rites for Paul Stanley Koss were held Saturday at the Little White Church in Malta, with Rev. Richard Brewster of Saco officiating. Burial was in Malta cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. Mr. Koss died at the Columbus hospital in Great Falls early Wednesday morning after a short illness.

He was born Aug. 1, 1906, at the Koss homestead in Little Marais, Minn. His parents moved to Viscount, Sask., Canada, when he was a year old. They lived there about four years, then moved back to Minnesota, where his father carried mail by dog team from Beaver Bay to Grand Marais, Minn.

His father did sailboat fishing and commercial fishing on Lake Superior until 1914 when the family moved to Montana in the Sun Prairie community. He purchased the George Whorley place near Loring in April 1946, and lived there until April 1957, when he sold out. Mr. Koss then moved to Polson and purchased the MS Flathead and operated Koss' Water Taxi Service for several years.

He was chosen Jaycee "Boss of the Year" in Jan. 1961. He was initiated as a Master Mason on Feb. 28, 1948, of the Malta Lodge No. 57 AF & AM. He was a member of the Algerian Temple in Helena, an Advisory Council member of the Order of DeMolay and a member of the Havre Elks Lodge.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Howard Barnard and Mrs. Sherman Grimsley, Malta; Mrs. Lloyd Barnard, Saco; brothers, Charles and Adam, Malta; John of Hovland, Minn., and Nassau, Grand Marais, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
