Sylvia Jo Jackson, lovingly known as Sib by her friends and Mamaw to her grandkids, was born on October 5, 1935, in Fruitvale, TX, to parents, Luther Jackson and Cora Foster. She was raised in Edgewood, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1953.

Sylvia married Charles Garnell Sims on August 28, 1953, and they remained in Edgewood until moving to Mesquite in 1959. Sylvia worked for Eller Media as a paint services manager until retiring in 1998 after 30 exemplary years. After retirement, she and Garnell returned to their hometown of Edgewood to live in the peace and quiet of the country. She was a charter member of Edgemont Park Baptist Church in Mesquite and proud member of First Baptist Church in Edgewood, who actively served the Lord by singing in the choir and volunteering in the church library. Sylvia lived a life full of passions including gardening, quilting, sewing, enjoying the company of her life-long friends by playing dominoes or traveling the country, and spending time with her grandkids.

Funeral services for Sylvia Jo Sims, 81, of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood, TX, with visitation being held 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood, TX. Burial will follow at Haven of Memories in Canton.
