Note: No death or burial record has been found for Abigail, but she was living in 1725. Her first husband has an extant grave marker here, and her second husband is assumed to be buried here as well. Were a memorial to be erected for her, it should certainly go in this cemetery. Many accounts say she was born in Charlestown, Mass., but do not give a rationale; most of her siblings were born in Woburn.

Abigail was the daughter of Richard Gardner and Hannah Rolfe of Woburn, Mass. She m. (1) Charlestown, Mass. 13 April 1687, as his second wife, Lt James Thompson, the son of Simon Thompson and Mary Converse of Woburn. James had married first Hannah Walker, with whom he had four children, born 1675 to 1683. Following his death, she remained widowed for more than ten years, but about 1704 she m. (2) as his second wife, Edward Johnson, the son of Maj William Johnson and Esther Wiswell of Woburn. Edward had married as his first wife, Sarah Walker, with whom he had eight children. Abigail was living in 1725 when mentioned in the will of her husband.

* Richard, b. 21 March 1688, d. Woburn 6 Jan 1718

* Abigail, b. 30 Dec 1689, was apparently NOT the one of her name who married Stephen Longfellow of Newbury. She may have died young.
