She graduated from La Cygne Rural High School in the Class of 1953. She then attended the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas. She continued her education receiving a Masters Degree in Special Education from Pittsburg State University. She worked as a teacher in Olathe and La Cygne. She then spent the majority of her career at Miami R-1 in Amsterdam, Missouri before retirement. Upon retirement, she volunteered as a "Foster" Grandparent in the Prairie View District. She had a passion for children and their education. Mary Jane was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Cygne. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Pauline Noel. She is survived by her son, Michael Abel, brother, Francis "Frankie" Noel III, and two sisters, Patricia Noel and Lois Green, four grandchildren: Benjamin, Michael, Jacob and Ori, and four great grandchildren: Aria, Liam, Tucker and Sydney and two special care givers, Vickie Hall and Angie Coe.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Cygne. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Cygne. The rosary will be prayed at 5 pm Tuesday with visitation following until 7 pm at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Polio Foundation
