He then attended the University of Chicago Law School under the GI Bill, graduated in 1949 with a J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree, and was admitted to law practice in the State of Illinois. After a 35 year career in the insurance industry as in-house legal counsel, largely with Kemper Group in Chicago, he retired to pursue a lifelong interest in historical research and writing. His published body of work in that area includes a book length biography of his distinguished ancestor, General Thomas Posey (1992), as well as many articles in scholarly historical journals.
In 1951 he married his dear wife Dolores Carol Kulczycki of Chicago. Their only child, Paul Stevenson Posey was born in 1954. Sadly, their 44-year marriage ended with her untimely death in 1995.
He is survived by his dear son Paul, and dear daughter-in-law Carol Lynn Kosary. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their children and grand-children, all descendants of his late dear siblings, Mary Alice (Parsons), Bernard Paul, Edward Clare, Charles Carroll, Elizabeth (Willers), and Joanne (Chadderdon) Posey, and many dear cousins too numerous to name.
In accordance with his wishes, no traditional wake, funeral rite, or memorial service will be held. His remains will be interred in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery at a date pending.
