He was born Aug. 14, 1929, in East St. Louis, the son of Charles Wesley and Marguerite (Root) Hook.
He married Jeanette Liggett on Aug. 29, 1985.
Charles was a proud manager with Kroger Co. for 37 years.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was an avid fisherman, card player, joke teller and cook. Charles loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was a St. Louis Cardinals loyal fan which led to some heated but humorous discussions with his stepsons that are Chicago Cub fans. Charles played for the St Louis Browns Baseball organization.
He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hook of Anna; son, Charles “Chuck” (Debbie) Hook of Marissa; stepsons, Wesley (Mary) Schulz of Palatine, L. Andrew Needling of Chicago; daughter-in-law, Karen Schlenker Boyd of Jonesboro; sister, Edna Mae (Jerry) Boswell of Salem; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Evelyn Hyden, Viola Kipping and Barbara Chappius; two brothers, Robert and Donald Hook; and one son, Kevin Hook.
