Norma Jean Hamilton of Stanfield, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Concord.

Hamilton was born July 12, 1931 in Memphis, TN to the late Iley Livingston and the late Clara Livingston. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wayne Hamilton; son, Philip Charles Smith; brother, Robert I. Livingston, Sr.; sisters, Shirley Ann Livingston, Edith Maxine Eberhart, Gladys M. Surman, and Betty Carol Livingston.

Norma and her husband "Ham" campaigned tirelessly to prevent busing and allowing neighborhood schools to thrive in Frayser, TN after desegregation. Afterward, Norma volunteered sewing and baking at Hammond Hills witnessing for Christ in Hurt Village, Teens for Christ and the Christian Jew Foundation. A voracious lover of classical music, Norma played piano and attended many Metropolitan Operas and has dazzled many with her paintings and dolls made in her 40's. Norma is famous for her "Buckwheats". Norma and Ham, after much encouragement, moved to Stanfield, NC in 1993 to be with her beloved granddaughters and new found friends in Locust and Stanfield.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am in the chapel. A committal and burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown at 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis on Thursday at 2:00 pm.

Survivors include son, Robert Lowell (Martha) Smith of Memphis, TN; daughters, Janet Marie Carter of Columbia, SC and Patricia Wayne (Jim) Iglehart of Concord, NC; granddaughters, Julia Ruth Iglehart and Rebecca Wayne Iglehart.
