Brian Milburn Potter, 67, son of James W. Potter and Nancy Telford Hay Potter, died unexpectedly on February 10, 2017. Born on May 10, 1949, in Pikeville, Kentucky, and a long-time resident of Lexington, Kentucky and Dunedin, Florida, Brian graduated from Elkhorn City High School in 1967. He then headed to the University of Kentucky where he joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, forged important lifelong friendships, and graduated in 1972. Brian married Nancy L. Webb, of Fort Valley, Georgia, and together they raised their daughter, Ashton. He was a selfless and loving husband, father, and friend. Known for his full-of-life personality, caring nature, and perpetually positive outlook, Brian made friends in many circles. He sought to make a difference through his professional work, his involvement in many civic organizations, and service on various boards. Throughout his life he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an outstanding cook and the consummate host. Friends could always count on him for a good pour, a great meal, and a lot of laughs. Fun-loving, loyal, and with a heart of gold, he was full of light and laughter and will be sorely missed by family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Nan Potter; his wife of 45 years, Nancy W. Potter; daughter Ashton Potter Wright, son-in-law Jonathan Wright, and precious grandson Potter Ellison Wright; brothers Derek J. Potter (Kolleen), David W. Potter (Devonnia), Michael L. Potter (Hilda), and their families; and special family friends, Julie, Will, Lili, and Dorsey Williams. His father, James W. Potter, predeceased him. Visitation and a celebration of Brian’s life will be held at the Thomas Hunt Morgan House located at 210 North Broadway in Lexington on Monday, February 13, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Lexington Cemetery on February 14, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Blue Grass Trust.
