Charlene Elizabeth Payne
1947 - 2016
Charlene Elizabeth Payne, beloved mother, wife, grandmothter, sister and friend passed away on December 17, 2016. Although she had many accomplishments, she would say that her family was her greatest. Charlene grew up in the Bronx, surrounded by loving family. She met Robert E. Payne in New York City and married him in 1968. Ten years later, she gave birth to her triplets, Kathryn, Thomas and Douglas. The family moved to Utah in 1982 and her vibrant personality created a vast network of friends who became like extended family, and her remarkable warmth impacted all who met her.
Charlene's zest and spark for life carried through in her work. Her vivacity helped her excel as an account manager for United Health Care. Her job kept her on the go, traveling constantly throughout the country. She enjoyed her job, her colleagues and the people she met throughout her travels.
Charlene loved life to the fullest and enjoyed travel, animals, reading, and especially her grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. Her regular visits to her son in New York and daughter and grandsons in Oregon made her remarkably happy in recent years, in addition to spending time with her family in Utah.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter Kathryn and son-in- law Griffin; sons Thomas and Douglas; grandchildren Carsen, Thomas, William, Braden and Jaden; and brothers Esteve, John, Donald and Clifford; and sister Barbara.
Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, Charlene's family requests that donations be made in her honor to The Humane Society of Utah or Best Friends Animal Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
