Dr. Sam Weakley CARNEY, JR., was born October 8, 1926, died May 16, 2003. Preceded in death by parents, Sam Weakley Carney, Sr. and Virginia Lee Moore Carney. Survived by sons, Sam W. Carney, III, Owensboro, KY and Stuart Clay Carney, Westfield, NJ; brother, James M. Carney, Nashville, TN. Dr. Carney was born in Tullahoma, TN. He was Valedictorian of Castle Heights Military Academy Class of 1945, First Lieutenant in the United States Army and received World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University Class of 1951 where he was a member of Beta Theta Phi, he graduated from Vanderbilt University, School of Medicine Class of 1954, he was a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a Member of the Board of Directors of Pastoral Counseling Centers of Tennessee. He was in private practice for 37 years in Madison, TN. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May 20, 2003 at Vine Street Christian Church, 4101 Harding Rd., with Rev. Roger Sledd officiating. Internment 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Gardens, 4758 New Manchester Highway, Tullahoma, TN. Visitation Monday 5-7 p.m at the church. Memorials may be made to Pastoral Counseling Centers of Tennessee, 100 Vine Ct., Nashville, TN or Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, 2424 Garland Ave., Nashville, TN 37212.
