David L. Beck, age 89, of 2535 Oak Hill Lane, Ashland, Kentucky, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in his home in Ashland.

Mr. Beck was born January 11, 1933 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, son of the late Thelma Bealer Beck and Roland J. Beck.

He was a retired chemist form Ashland Oil, Inc. where he worked in analytical and quality control (APAL facility). He was a graduate of Muhlenberg College (BS Chemistry), Allentown, PA., and the University of Delaware (MS Physical Polymer Chemistry). Mr. Beck also worked for the first half of his career on the east coast in technological fields involving polymers, plastics and textiles. He was a member of the American Chemical Society. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict (1951-1955). He served on the fleet-type submarines USS Baya (SS-318) and USS Blenny (SS-324) and while doing so achieved the rating of Electrician Mate 2/c. He was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Russell, Kentucky.

In retirement, Mr. Beck and his wife travelled extensively making outdoor/nature photographs and later selling them at local art galleries, motels and gift shops. He was a wide reader of books encompassing both of the humanities and the arts. He also completed many college courses (DVD/TV) from the "Great Courses" company. Both he and his wife were all-season sports fans, especially U.K. basketball, Phillies baseball, and college football.

Surviving are his loving wife of many years, Jane Zimmerman Beck: one daughter, Ruth Beck Baliotti; son-in-law, Daniel S. Baliotti of Nyack, New York; has one granddaughter, Laura Anne Baliotti; and two nephews and seven nieces. A brother, Phillip Beck of Bethlehem, PA., and a sister, Elizabeth Marquardt of Pottstown, PA., predeceased him in addition to his parents.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland, Kentucky on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 4 pm with a 1 hour visitation prior to the service. There will be a service at the Pearson Funeral Home in Bethlehem, PA Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. with Glenn Schoenberger officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Memorial Gardens where military honors will take place.
