FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Ralph Neal Beam Sr., 78, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the residence of his beloved son, Ralph Beam Jr. Born April 16, 1925, in Fort Ashby, he was the son of the late Vernon and Nora (Broom) Beam. Mr. Beam was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany during World War II. He was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, with 37 years service. Mr. Beam was a member of Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle and gardening. Survivors include his four children, Connie Kauffman and husband Richard, Fort Ashby, Ralph Beam Jr. and wife Tammy, Fort Ashby, Tana Carter and fiancee Bill Peer, Fort Ashby, and Trudy Bare and special friend Todd, Harrisonburg, Va.; one brother, Dale Beam, Fort Ashby; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his former wife of 24 years, Dorothy (Landis) Beam, Fort Ashby. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Friday. The funeral service will be held on Saturday in the funeral home, with the Rev. James Glass officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Local Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
