Marilyn Jeanenne “Mimi” Smith, 59, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born Oct. 17, 1940, in Elkins, she was the daughter of Helen (Poe) Evick of Elkins, and the late Arthur P. Evick. Marilyn was a registered nurse and served as a Utilization Review Analyst at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. She was a graduate of Elkins High School and the Davis and Elkins College School of Nursing. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby. Marilyn was an avid runner and competed in numerous area races. The high point of her 20 years of running came in 1998 when she completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John D. Smith Sr.; one son, John D. Smith Jr. and wife Michele, of Fort Ashby; one brother, Donald Evick and wife Tony, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Anna Ruth Collett, of Elkins, Carolyn Stalnaker and husband Jim, also of Elkins; and a life-long friend, Jane Bond, of Seminole, Fla. Marilyn is also survived by a grandson, Nicholas, whom she called “the joy of her life.” Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Monday. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby, with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Llewellyn, Justin Llewellyn, Harry Johnston, Brad Stalnaker, Jim Stacy and David Stacy. Published in the Cumberland Times-News, Monday, April 17, 2000
