Thomas was either born in Dublin, Ireland or in the family home of Dorsetshire, England. He left Dublin 1793-94 for New York, where en route, he met Nancy Rea of Edinburgh, Scotland to live in Bedford, PA. Thomas learned the trade of cabinet making while living in New York and shortly there- after went to the home of Nancy. They were married about 1798 and had 10 children Thomas 1800, David 1802, Joseph, George Washington, Hannah Foster, Ann, Mary, Jane, Sarah and Martha. Thomas first home was in Bedford Borough and in 1827 moved to Cumberland Valley Twp. He was appointed Justice of the Peace in Bedford in 1810 so long as you shall behave yourself well. On 19 Aug 1879 Thomas, Nancy and Anna were removed from their farm to Bedford Cemetery on Route 220.
