Melvin Eston Kirby, Sr., 97, widower of Etrulyer Huff Kirby, passed away February 10, 2017.

A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Wyartt B. and Miza Few Kirby.

He was a retired Southern Bell Manager, a member of Victor Baptist Church, and a US Army and US Air Force Veteran of WWII.

Surviving are one son, Eston Kirby (Carol) of Monroe, Georgia; two daughters, Gail Poterala (Jay) of Greenville and Debra Kennon (Hal) of Greer; six grandchildren, Kimberly Franklin, Stephanie Byrd, Greg Weaver, Jennifer Ross, Stephen Poterala and Katie Poterala; and twelve great-grandchildren, Kirby Watkins, Mary Kate Watkins, Harrison Byrd, Stella Byrd, Amelia Byrd, Thomas Poterala, Benjamin Poterala, Emily Poterala, Claire Weaver, Carys Weaver, Anderson Weaver and Blakelee Ross. He is also survived by a special friend, Mildred Rochester.

He was predeceased by a brother, James Leslie Kirby.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at Graceland East Mausoleum Chapel, conducted by Rev. Ken Vickery and Chaplain Justin Nelson. Entombment will follow in Graceland East Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at The Wood Mortuary.

The family is at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Hal Kennon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 260 Fairwinds Road, Landrum, SC 29356.
