On September 19, 2016, Edwards, a student at Morgan State University, was walking off-campus, about a mile from the school, when he was stabbed and died from his injuries. The attack occurred in a residential area at Loch Raven Boulevard and Woodbourne Avenue in Baltimore. Edwards was a 21-year-old man from Washington, D.C. who aspired to become a police officer. He was a graduate of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Junior Police Academy and the FBI Washington Field Office Future Agents in Training Program.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baltimore Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) responsible for the homicide of Marcus Edwards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Our dear friend, Marcus Edwards, Morgan State University (4th-year student), was tragically killed on Monday night, September 19, 2016. While Baltimore Police Detectives are frantically working the case, we are left holding our heads, wiping away tears, consoling one another and asking God, "Why?"

Marcus was a graduate of Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools For Public Policy - Capitol Hill Campus in Washington, DC, a former intern of the Jr. Police Academy in DC and the U.S. Department of Treasury. He also worked at Chipotle and was a proud student of Social Work at Morgan State University. He, most definitely, had plans to become a DC Police Officer. He wore the costume for "McGruff the Crime Dog", just last month, for National Night Out in the Second Police District, a place that felt like home for him, because of the amount of time he spent there as a volunteer. Police officers shared the news today, in total devastation. BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)– At just 21-years-old Marcus Edwards certainly made an impact on his community. His dream was to become a police officer in D.C. working with inner city youth. He was already a graduate of the department’s junior academy. Well Tuesday at Marcus’ funeral, his family was able to see his childhood dream come true.

Some would say Marcus Edwards’ life was taken too soon, but no one can say he didn’t make the best of those short years on earth.

Monday night, September 19, Marcus was stabbed in the chest near his apartment, a mile from Morgan State University, where he was a sophomore social work major. He died from those wounds, prompting a manhunt by Baltimore City Police looking for his killer.
His mother remembering that smile and her son’s dreams.

“He really wanted to be a MPD detective. That’s all he dreamed about. That’s all he dreamed of,” said Nicole Ausberry-Brooks, Marcus’ mother.

That dream came posthumously at his funeral as D.C.’s interim police chief makes Marcus Edwards an honorary officer of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the honors did not stop there. He received an honor many people don’t receive in life or death.

The Metropolitan Police Department and the District of Columbia declared September 27, 2016, as Marcus Edwards day in D.C.

A life taken well before its full potential was lived, but a life honored for the accomplishments in just a short time. His murder grabbed the attention Tiger Woods, who called Marcus’ mother with his condolences.
