Marquis Dessolles. He was a French General and statesman. He was the 3rd Prime Minister of France from December 29, 1818 to November 18, 1819. He entered into military service in 1792 and became an Adjutant-General under the command of Napoléon Bonaparte during the Italian campaign of the War of the First Coalition. He soon rose to the rank of Brigadier-General on May 31, 1797. During the Napoleonic Wars he was named a State Councilor but was dismissed in for having held hostile intentions against Napoléon. Later, under the Bourbons, he pursued a political career. He was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister with the formation of a liberal ministry. After less than a year he retired in frustration.
