Brenda Joyce Key
(October 7, 1943 - February 9, 2017)

Brenda “Joyce” Key, 73, of Greeneville, passed away Thursday morning at her home.

She was a caregiver and sitter for many years. Joyce attended Union Freewill Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years: Buddy Key; one son: Curtis Lee Key and Randa Massey; daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and Emory Miller; six grandchildren: Brandon Lee and Sarah Key, Robert Lee Key, Amber Skye Nicole Key, Donovan Miller and Kassie Miller, Cherdine Key, Jade Lee Ann Key; five great-grandchildren: Ryleigh JoAnn Childress, Memphis Lee Key, Madilynn Manis, Liam Jace Miller, Mason Lee Key; sister: Georgia Shipley; sister-in-law: Lynne Shipley; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Shirley Gibson, Kay Malone, and Edith Johnson.

She was preceded in death by one son: Edgar Lee Key, Jr.; parents: Doyle and Roxie Shipley; two brothers: Wayne Shipley and Rex Shipley; and a special pet, Taz.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Rev. Mike Harmon and the Rev. Sid Barkley will officiate. Interment will follow in River Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Key, Emory Miller, Brandon Key, Donovan Miller, Ricky Miller, and Daniel Collinsworth.

C. Wayne Shipley, age 75, of Greeneville, passed away Thursday morning (June 18, 2015) at his home.

He retired from Weavexx after 32 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Eva Williams Shipley; daughter and son-in-law: Paula and Gary Averett of Greeneville; three sons and one daughter-in-law: Jeff and Becky Knight Shipley of Newport , Anthony Shipley of the home, Bill Shipley of Greeneville; four grandsons: Benson Wayne Susong-Shipley, Logan Mathew Shipley both of Greeneville, PFC Travis Knight and wife, Katie, of Clarksville, TN, and Rex Shipley of Memphis, TN; granddaughter: Misty Myers of Greeneville; two sisters: Joyce Key and husband, Edgar, and Georgia Shipley all of Greeneville; three sisters-in-law: Lynn Munsey Shipley, Carol Starnes, and Janey and Bob Nuttall all of Greeneville; brother-in-law and his wife: Bill and Iris Williams of Virginia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friend: John Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Roxie Wilhoit Shipley and Doyle Shipley; brother: Rex Shipley; sister: JoAnn Shipley; nephew: Edgar Lee Key, Jr.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday (June 21, 2015) in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. Elder J.L. Gudger and Mr. James Rodgers will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be his trading buddies.

Buford Rex Shipley
(March 30, 1938 - March 19, 2015)

Buford “Rex” Shipley, 76, of Greeneville, died Thursday afternoon at his home.

Mr. Shipley was an entrepreneur of several local businesses including three service stations, a produce market, a used car lot and most recently Mosheim Flea Market. He actively attended Mosheim Fellowship Church while his health permitted and loved his church family; it was a great joy in his life.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Lynne Shipley of Greeneville; a special daughter and his caregiver, Vickie Murdock and son-in-law, Terry; two special grandchildren, Justin Murdock and his wife, Brittany and Cody Murdock; three sons, Jerry Shipley, Bill Shipley, and Buford Shipley; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Joyce Key and Buddy; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Shipley and Eva; sister, Georgia Shipley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pat McLeod and Rob, and Mary Ruth Moncier and Danny; special friends: Ronnie and June Colyer, Debbie Goode and family, Dr. Benny Smith, Dr. John Boys, Diahn, Ashley, and staff of Caris Healthcare, the dietary and other staff of Laughlin Memorial Hospital, Wes Laughlin and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shipley was the son of the late Doyle and Roxie Shipley and was preceded in death by his son, Steve Shipley.

The family will receive friends 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Michael Mack will officiate. Committal services will follow at Mosheim Central Cemetery.
