Bernard Merle Owens died peacefully at his retirement home in Carlsbad, Calif., surrounded by his family. A long-time resident of North County, Bernard Owens was born in Helena, Montana. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and became a warrant officer in World War II, serving in Germany and India. He continued his career in the Army until retirement in 1959. He organized the Army Bowling League in Germany in WW II, and later designed and managed bowling alleys in Colorado and California. He was an active member of the Lions Club and the VFW. He is survived by his son, Rex of Oceanside, California, his son Doug and his daughter, Keala of Cardiff, California; his sister, Pearl Timm of Seattle, Washington; and his brother, Robert Owens of Willcox, Arizona.
