Leonard A. "Chip" Wile, 63, of 200 Litman Road, Butler, former resident of Franklin area, died at 5:45 pm Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1993, in Butler Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Born April 27, 1929 in Shippenville, he was a son of Rollie Orville and Dorothy Louise Uhl Wile.

He was signed to a baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals while attending Rocky Grove High School by Hall of Famer Lefty Gomez. He played seven years in the farm system, reaching the Cardinals' Triple A level before he was released. He then played in the Hayrake League in Franklin for several years. He served in the Army in the Korean War. He retired from the storeroom of Pullman Standard, Butler. He enjoyed hunting, all sports, playing guitar, was a member of the Butler Elks No. 170, and a former member of the YMCA. He formerly owned the New Cit Club in Franklin.

He married Mary Kendall Aug. 10, 1982, and she survives, with a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Holly) Denny of Franklin; a son, Michael L. Wile of Seneca; four grandchildren; two brothers, Russell E. Wile and Glenn R. Wile, both of Franklin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy McClain and Helen Counselman; and a brother, Paul Wile.

Services will be at 11 am Friday in Huff Chapel with Rev. Donald D. Richards, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Franklin, officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery.
