FRANCIS J. LaPLANTE SR., 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at The Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 2, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, he was a son of the late Louis and Sarah LaPlante. A member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, he served his country and retired from the Navy after 20 years of service, later retiring from General Electric after 25 years of service. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Mens Club, Past-President and served as Chaplin of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), American Legion Post 47, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 857 and was a past judge of the Fort Wayne City Flower Show. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Jeff) Aysse of Charleston, S.C. and Mary (Bob) Willis of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brittany and Emily Aysse, Eric (Shana) and Adam (Catherine) Willis; and siblings, Helen, Eva, Laura, Jim and Jerry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret LaPlante; son, Francis LaPlante Jr.; and siblings, Louise, Rita, Louis, Kate, Sally, Clara, Harvey, Henry, George, and Art. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
