CAUSE OF DEATH: Suicide by hanging (family barn). According to my father, John D. Radford (as told to him by his grandmother Elizabeth Edmiston Radford - James' daughter); James had made several attempts at suicide.

CHILDREN (8): James III, William, Alexander, Archibald, Elizabeth, Janet (Memorial #143530310), Margaret and Robert.

IMMIGRATION: The following taken from Myrtle Holmes' London Free Press article {a niece of James Edmiston II}. In 1842 four Edminston brother Archibald, James II, John and Walter (Memorial #147537745), and their mother Janet (Boyd) Edmiston came to Canada; after leaving the shores of their native Scotland to make themselves new homes across the sea. Stories of vast areas being given away and of wealth to be had for the taking, had caused much unrest among the hard-working Scottish people, who saw in Canada the fulfillment of all their dreams. Influenced by such tales, these four young men determined to better their condition. They landed at Quebec and by the transportation of the time made their way inland to the town of Paris, then but a village on the Grand River. Here they rented a house for their mother that would leave them free to go farther into the woods and select their homestead. On foot they made their way up the old Governor's Rd. to the village of Princeton. Leaving the road here, they trudged through the bush to what is now the fifth concession of Blenheim, but at that time had not been surveyed. Here the four brothers purchased 50 acres. It was not until after many years of undaunted labor and untiring effort that they little by little and chip by chip hewed out their houses.
