Obituary for John Merlin Walker
John Merlin Walker, age 77, of Ottumwa, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa, while receiving Care Initiatives Hospice services.

John was born on February 3, 1940 in Ottumwa to Merlin A. and Grace. E (Gardner) Walker. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958, and attended the University of Iowa prior to enlisting with the United States Air Force in 1962. After his service time, he became a Commercial Pilot. He worked for Louisiana Air Charter Service where, among other large corporate charters, he flew the well-known musicians Edgar and Johnny Winter, and Seals and Crofts, to many of their concert venues and events.

John was a member of the American Legion in Ottumwa. He was passionate about flying, a love equalled only by spending time with family.

He is survived by his siblings, Carol (Roy) Davis of Sheridan, WY, Dennis Walker of Ottumwa; nieces and nephews, Judith C. Vos-Ferneau, Miriam (Tom) Nance, Linda (Burt) Simbro, Maureen Vos, Michael Vos; and great nieces, Lesley (Patrick) DeRenzo, and Vanessa (Justin) Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2017, with Pastor David Klanderman officiating at Sinnott Funeral Home, 220 N. Court, Ottumwa, Iowa. 52501. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion and the VFW of Ottumwa. Visitation will also be held on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
