FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Lydia Ann (Dawson) Kauffman, 68, Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1991, at Cumberland (Md.) Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 18, 1923* in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Maude (Riley) Dawson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Donald Kenney. Mrs. Kauffman was a buyer for Grant’s Department Store. She retired from the Mineral County Board of Education where she was director of the Adult Basic Education Program at the Mineral County Vo-Tech Center in Keyser. She was a member of McKinley Chapter 12, Order of the Eastern Star, Cumberland, and Gold Star Wives of America. Survivors include her former husband, Richard W. Kauffman Sr., Fort Ashby; two sons, Richard W. Kauffman Jr., Fort Ashby; and James T. Kauffman, Keyser; one brother, Lester Dawson, Coatesville, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Weaver, Cresaptown, Md.; and Pearl Barnes, Cumberland; and five grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Johnny Kelly.
