John McKeever along with his wife Lucrecia Purlyette (Rowe) and a young daughter Mary, all died of small pox and were the first ones to be buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery. All are buried in unmarked graves.

John's half sister Eliza Ann (McKEEVER) WADKINS and her baby Mary who lived in the same location died on June 15, 1869 in the epidemic.

John's mother was Reuben McKeever's first wife, Polly Humphrey(s), not Reuben's second wife, Elizabeth Carpenter.
