Esther Newton

THOMASVILLE - Esther Mills Newton, 93, of Wilson, formerly of Thomasville, died Tuesday, March 2, in Wilson.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rich Fork Baptist Church Cemetey by the Rev. J. Byron Barker and Dr. Richard L. Sommers.

Miss Newton was born Aug. 28, 1899, in Davidson County to the Rev. J. D. Newton and Martha Mills Newton. She was the granddaughter of John G. Mills, founder of Mills Home and Oxford Orphanage. She was a graduate of Thomasville City Schools and Meredith College. She taught at Reeds Elementary, Pilot Elementary, at Mills Home and in Mocksville. She retired from teaching in 1941. She was a member of Rich Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving is a brother, Adrian J. Newton of Raleigh, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
