EDWARDSBURG - L. Dean Martin, 97 years old of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Feb. 6, 2017, at West Woods of Niles after an illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Elkhart County, Indiana, and had lived in the Michiana area all of his life.

Dean was a self-employed wholesale deliveryman, driving his own truck for Silvercup Bakery, then Kreamo Bakery and lastly for Nichols Bakery. He also delivered ‘Little Debbies' at one time. After retirement, dean worked for MDI in Edwardsburg doing outside maintenance and helped his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bill Robinson, at Robinson Wood Products.

Dean married the love of his life, Margaret A. Crothers, on Nov. 22, 1941. Margaret came from the Crothers family who owned Culvers Resort on Eagle Lake and Margaret and Dean had some duties at Culvers Resort. Dean liked to bowl in some of the Bowling Leagues of Edwardsburg at the former Spanish Terrace at Christiana Lake. Dean's wife, Margaret, passed on Jan. 9, 2012. Surviving are their children, Cindy Robinson of Edwardsburg, Roxane (Joel) Baker of Valrico, FL, Carol Claire of Niles, Scott (Mary) Martin of Dunlap, IN, and Tim Martin of Sacramento, CA. There are 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Also surviving are an “adopted” granddaughter, Sherri Greenfield-Ludwig, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Smith. There are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family who have passed are his beloved wife, Margaret, his mother, Fern, two sons-in-law, Bill Robinson and Brian Claire, sister-in-law, Pat Wendt, and a step-granddaughter, Tamara Robinson.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St., Edwardsburg. The Celebration of Life for Dean will be on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, 68961 Lake Street, Edwardsburg, where all may gather for one hour before the service. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor of the church. Interment will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery beside his wife.

Memorial donations may be made to the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, for the Dean Martin Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 4, Edwardsburg, MI 49112-0004.
