RITES TODAY FOR DR. FRANK KIDD JR.

Memorial services for Dr. Frank Hereford Kidd Jr., founding chairman of the board of directors of Presbyterian Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery.

Kidd died Monday in Dallas. He was 78.

He was born Feb. 11, 1909, in Burnsville, W.Va., and graduated from Oak Cliff High School, Southern Methodist University and Baylor School of Medicine. He served as a medical officer during World War II.

Kidd was a former chief of surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and was one of the founders of Presbyterian Hospital. He donated his office building at 4000 Junius St. to both hospitals in 1976. The hospitals alternate as sponsors of the Frank H. Kidd Jr. Visiting Professorship for top surgeons throughout the world. The program is funded by the income from the lease of the building, which is now a clinic.

Kidd was a SMU Distinguished Alumnus, a member of the Southwestern Medical School faculty and a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, ruling elder and elder emeritus. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Dallas Country Club, American College of Surgeons, Little Brothers Journal Club, Sons of the American Revolution, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA and American Legion.

He is survived by two nieces, Susan Duquette of Dallas and Stephanie Mackie of Houston; three grandnephews; and two grandnieces. Contributions may be made to the Frank Hereford Kidd Jr. Chair at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School or to a charity of one's choice.
