Ms. Deborah Butts began her life's journey on July 23, 1941 in Winter Park, FL, born to Bishop Eddie Butts Sr. and Mother Jestine Smith-Butts. Deborah moved to Daytona Beach, FL during the years of her youth. She was educated in the Orange and Volusia County Public Schools and graduated from Campbell Street High School (Class of 1960). After graduating high school, she attended Volusia County Community College, and later enlisted in the United States Navy, where she served her country for 6 years. After her return to Daytona Beach, FL, she was hired by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where she worked for 36 years prior to retiring as the Assistant Director of Veteran Affairs in 2008. During her employment at Embry-Riddle, she obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Aviation Business Administration in 2001. Her church affiliations included being an active member of Butts Temple Church of God in Christ of East Central Florida under the leadership of her late father, Bishop Eddie Butts and under the leadership of her late brother, Dr. Henry L. Butts. In 1995, she joined Evangelistic Family Worship Center (now known as New Heart Christian Center) under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Dr. George E. Butts, Sr., where she was a founding member, member of the usher board and the finance secretary. Deborah relocated to Virginia Beach, VA in 2015 and began attending Restoration Christian Fellowship, where her daughter serves as a minister, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Clifton and Rev. Dr. Marcia Clarke. Deborah was a very active member in the Daytona Beach community in many ways such as serving as a volunteer for the John H. Dickerson Community Center Senior Oasis, American Cancer Society, A.M.V.E.T.S., and the Campbell Street High School All-Class Reunion Committee. Her interest included: playing Bid Whist, attending noon day prayer, going to church, listening to great music and shopping. After the passing of her sister Naomi, Deborah gladly accepted the responsibility of raising her children, Sean and Kimberly, and after the passing of Kimberly, she also accepted the responsibility of raising Kimberly's children, Naomi and Nina. Deborah answered her heavenly call on January 11, 2017 at 06:52 p.m. in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Eddie and Mother Jestine Butts; four brothers, Dr. Eddie Butts, Jessie Butts, Dr. Henry L. Butts, and Jeremiah Butts; three sisters, Christine Campbell, Hattie Pearl Hardy, and Naomi Hughes; and a niece whom she raised, Kimberly Rashea Hughes. The loved ones left to cherish the legacy and love that she shared are the joy of her life, her daughter, Rev. D'Lorah Butts-Lucas, Esq. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; special nephews and great nieces, Sean Hamilton (Salina), Nadia Hamilton, Kourtny Lewis, Deonte Hamilton, and Chayce Hamilton, all of Daytona Beach, FL, Naomi Hughes of Atlanta, GA, Nina Hughes, Marquis Lewis (Megan), and Madison Lewis all of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Cleveland of Winter Park, FL, Dorcas Morris and Jestine B. Long (Elder Turline) all of Daytona Beach, FL; three brothers, George W. (Esther) and Samuel Butts (Lovely) of Daytona Beach, FL, and Bishop George E. Butts (Cathy) of Palm Coast, FL; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Butts of Springfield, NJ, Lue Jean Butts and Willie Mae Butts all of Daytona Beach, FL; Godchildren, Marvin Morris Jr. and Kamya Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends including Harold V. Lucas Jr., Delores Barnes, Barbara McCarthy, Mildred Edwards, and Mary Barrs. Public viewing will be held Friday, January 20, 2017, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. followed by a wake from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at New Heart Christian Center, 1328 Hurst Street, Daytona Beach, FL.
