Mildred Juanita (Nichols) Ferguson - Nita Ferguson, 96, of Memphis, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Nita was born on January 30, 1921 in Monroe County, Mississippi to Charles and Linda Nichols. She graduated from New Albany High School in 1938 where she met her husband John Travis "Red" Ferguson. Red and Nita married in 1939 and they later relocated to Memphis. She was a long-time employee in the credit department of Sears-Roebuck, first at the Crosstown location and later at the Laurelwood location. She had been a member of First Baptist Church for over sixty years, where her passion was service in the Laotian ministry. Nita was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Red; her parents; and her siblings, Jasper Nichols, Catherine Thompson, and George Nichols. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Jones; her son, Paul Ferguson (Jan); her grandchildren, Dayna Lamkin, Carolyn Taylor (Jeff), Joe Ferguson (Kara), Mikki Ferguson; great-grandson, Tyler Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 8 from five until seven o'clock at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. A celebration of life service will be held at the same location on Thursday, February 9 at two o'clock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to the International Ministries of First Baptist Church, 200 East Parkway North, Memphis, Tennessee 38112.
