Dr. William Jesse Briggs, III, 82, of Milan, died Monday, February 6, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00P.M., Thursday, February 9, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae, with burial in the Midway Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:30P.M. at Vaughn Funeral Home.

A native of Ft. Wayne, IN, Dr. Briggs was the son of the late William Jesse Briggs, Jr., and the late Elsie Marie Russell Briggs.

Valedictorian of his graduating class of Asbury College and a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Briggs first opened his medical practice in Marietta before moving to Milan, and, after a few years of working in the field of emergency medicine, moved his practice to McRae. He was a US Coast Guard veteran, was a former Gideon Speaker, and was an active member of McRae Presbyterian Church. Dr. Briggs was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Briggs Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Addie Garrison Briggs of Milan; son, William Saxton (Marisa) Briggs of Lynchburg, VA; daughter, Laurel Briggs (Mark) Straughan of Milan; and grandchildren, Margaret Caroline Straughan, Jonathan William Straughan, Liam Matthew Briggs and Charles Joseph Briggs.
