Previously he was the Campus Minister for the Church of Christ at the University of Delaware and Purdue University in Indiana. His grandfather and grandmother were missionaries in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The Carol Morgan School and the Barney Morgan School were founded in the Dominican Republic in honor of Ian's grandparents. The college and schools are still operating today. Ian and his wife Lisa led groups of teenagers on several mission trips to Mexico to aid in the building of churches and orphans' homes.

They also served as missionaries in Mexico, Germany, Italy and England.
