Obituary

Melvin Eugene Bowman, Sr., 89, of Hearne, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by family and friends.

A visitation and funeral service was held Monday, February 6, with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. and funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church -Hearne. Burial with military honors was held Tuesday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Paint Rock Cemetery in Paint Rock, Texas. Services in Hearne were officiated by Rev. James Hooper and Rev. Larry Blackmon. Obituary was read by Gary Putz and Chuck Carlson of the American Legion spoke.

Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers were Mel Bowman III, Justin Bowman, Douglas Michael Harrison, Ryan Bowman, Jason Reed, Scott Archer, Kenneth McDougall, Seth Jones, Trevor Russ, Reed Russ, Justin Hough, Aaron Springer, Nathan Springer, Nicholas Springer, and FBC Men's Sunday School Class Members.

Melvin was born, November 5, 1927 in Maverick, Texas to Benjamin Franklin Bowman and Dora Mae Harold Bowman. Serving in the Korean War in the Army Airborne Division with his brother, Ben, he returned home to work in construction as a construction superintendent to faithfully provide for his beloved family.

He always loved playing the guitar and singing with his kids, brothers, and friends, never shying away from the limelight. He coached many little league games for his kids and loved taking his kids and grandkids hunting and fishing. His grandkids and great grandkids meant the world to him and he always had a pocketful of M&Ms for them.

The last 25 years were spent with his loving wife, Bettie, and they were full of joy as they served the Lord while ministering to so many in the Hearne community and Camp of the Hills. Mel was always ready to share a good cup of coffee and a few tall stories with his buddies at the DQ or McDonald's. He was a caring husband, faithful father, doting grandfather, and special friend to so many. He is a light that will shine in heaven forever.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 36 years; Marie Bowman, brothers; JK Bowman, RW Bowman, Virgil Bowman,

Ben Bowman, and WC Bowman, sisters; Alta Laudermilk and Leona Spivey.
