The funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Ellisboro Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Tillman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Polly was born to the late Percy and Claudia Stanfield in Guilford County on April 1, 1927. She married Harold Collins in 1950. She operated Polly’s Beauty Shop and served her customers who were lifelong friends for over 70 years. Connie’s Day Care also held a very special place in her heart as she never forgot the children for whom she cared so much.
Polly was an active member of Ellisboro Baptist Church, the Lee and Sprint Telephone Company family and the 30th Infantry “Old Hickory” auxiliary groups. In later years, she volunteered her gift as a beautician to local nursing homes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Pansy” Collins; sisters, Elizabeth Wright of Greensboro and Barbara Comer of Goldsboro; brothers, Hyams Stanfield of Winston-Salem and Sammie Stanfield of Monticello.
Survivors include her brother, Milton “Mit” Stanfield of Madison; son, Will Collins and wife, Debi of Raleigh; daughter, June Land and husband, Steve of the home; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many very special nieces and nephews.
