Sterling M. Saltzman, was born on a farm west of Milford, Nebraska on September 25, 1924, to Edward Elmer and Alice (Schweitzer) Saltzman, the third of eight children. He went to be with Jesus on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at his home at the age of 92.

As a young boy, Sterling attended a country school and later Milford Public School. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized and became a member of the Milford Mennonite Church, later becoming a member of the East Fairview Mennonite Church. On December 30, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ina Schweitzer at East Fairview and to this union seven children were born: Arlyn, Lynn, William, Mavis, Anna, Marietta and Mark. Together they lived in Milford where Sterling and his brother, Clinton owned and operated the “Saltzman Welding Shop” for many years.

In 1977, he sold the welding shop and continued to work for the new owner, Brian Utter. In 1987, Sterling retired and later assisted his sons, Bill and Mark with Milford Plumbing and Heating. In his spare time, Sterling made rugs on his loom. He enjoyed gardening, and most of all, loved spending time with his family.

Sterling's faith in God was strong and by his example, passed it on to his family.
