BEAR RIVER - Ivan Ray Frost was born on April 1, 1935 in the old Dee Hospital the second child of Peter Ivan and Edith Naomi Hamilton Frost. Ray passed away on February 3, 2017.
Ray grew up in South Ogden and helped his parents at the Frost's Market, starting at a young age. He worked at General Mills for a while and at the Wonder Bread Bakery. He was at Hill Air Force Base for 10 years as an electrical engineer.
Ray graduated from the old Weber High School in 1953. He then graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Weber State College in June 1966 and the University of Utah in 1971 with a master's degree in Educational Psychology.
He was a scout leader, baseball little league coach, and served on the Bear River City Council from 2005-2012. He organized the first 5K run for Bear River City for the 24th of July celebrations. He also served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He went to Fort Bragg for parachute school and was able to get his wings.
He was a Utah Rehabilitation counselor and received counselor of the year. He then became District Director for Northern Utah.
Ray loved working with wood and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his wife, children, and grandchildren. During his retirement he wrote two books. He published one teen novel and sold copies in stores from Logan to St. George.
Ray and Barbara Cook married on October 7, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They started life for a short time in South Ogden, then moved to Roy. In 1970 they moved to Bear River City until the present time. They have been married for 61 years. Some of that time was spent traveling to China, Denmark, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, and many other places.
Ray was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a Sunday School teacher, scout leader, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and a counselor in the Bishopric. He and Barbara also served a stake mission.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Barbara and their six children: Scott, Salt Lake City, UT; Cindy (Glenn) Romney, Rigby, ID; Tim (Kaye), Bear River City, UT; Kip (Renae), Columbus, OH; Mitch (Jenni), Providence, UT; and Adam, Salt Lake City, UT; also his brother Norm (Michelle), 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bear River City Church, 5870 N. 4700 W., Bear River City, UT.
Viewings will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT, and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Bear River City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Gables of Brigham City.
