DANNEBROG — Joseph (Ted) Swanson, 94, of Dannebrog died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. The Revs. Rob Pearson and Donnie Halbgewachs will officiate. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Swanson was born Nov. 13, 1922, in a sod house outside of Westerville, to Joseph and Lillian (Wrasse) Swanson.


He graduated from Dry Valley High School near Westerville in Custer County in 1941. He attended the University of Minnesota Farm School and Bethel College. That is where he met the girl of his dreams. Sixty-five years ago, Ted was united in marriage to Helen Holle on Dec. 14, 1951, on a cold snowy night in Grove City, Minn.


Ted enjoyed his work, cows, and Nebraska football. Above all else, he loved his family and the Lord, his Savior. He liked to visit with people, drink coffee and do woodworking.


He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dannebrog, where he taught Sunday school for many years, and he also served on Sunnyside School District 16 School Board near Dannebrog.


Survivors include his wife, Helen of Dannebrog; his children and their spouses, Trish Swanson of Tampa, Fla., Cindy and Greg Bodin of Maple Grove, Minn., John and Sarah Swanson of Dannebrog and Doug and Karen Swanson of Aurora; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Gerri Swanson of St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Carol Swanson of Mission Hills, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leonard, Melvin, Arvid and Fennett and an infant brother, Theodore Swanson; and a sister, Jarda Swanson.
