He was born in Philadelphia and lived in the area for 12 years. He retired in September 1966, after 22 years of service and also had worked at the Little Creek Navy Exchange until 1974. He was an EN2 in the Navy.
He was a member of Virginia Beach Branch 61 of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Other survivors include a son, Neil Basanavicius of Virginia Beach; a sister; Mrs. Sidney Bash of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Grown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. Burial with military honors, will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.
