Joseph and Mary Belle had five daughters, Edith 1904, Ethel 1906, Elma 1908, Ruby 1911, Mildred 1913. (The years of birth years for the daughters are from census records and may vary from actual dates.)
Joseph Lathrom died of tuberculosis in 1916. Mary Belle and Joseph were unable to care for their children due to his illness and they were taken in by family and neighbors.
After Joseph's death Mary Bell married John Sheddrick Medlock. The last record found regarding Mary Belle was John Madlock's WWI draft registration. It was dated September 12, 1918. It has his wife as Mary Belle Medlock and address as Cheney, Missouri.
The story passed down in the family was that Mary Belle died in 1918 during childbirth, and was buried south of Mountain Grove. We do know she died between September of 1918 and the 1920 census which show John Medlock as widower.
John, his first wife, as well as many members of his family are buried at New Hope Cemetery, which is located a few miles from the old post office of Cheney, Missouri. At this date no documents have been found that show where Mary Belle was buried, but it seems to be reasonable to think she is also buried here. New Hope Cemetery is south of Mountain Grove, Missouri thus fitting with the oral family history that Mary Belle was buried south of Mountain Grove.
