Russell E. Payne, 60, went to be with his Lord at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

Russ was born in Logan, West Virginia on September 2, 1956 to Lanville Payne and Carol Griggs.

He served our country in the U.S. Air Force in the Communications Command before his Honorable Discharge.

Russ would reside in Plymouth where he would attain his GED and attend Ancilla College.

He loved to paint artwork, enjoyed fishing and reading all genera’s of books. His dog Peanut was his buddy. He treasured being with his grandchildren and having coffee every morning with his sister Carol. He was a huge Bears and Cubs fan and was proud to get to experience their World Series win.

Russ is survived by his children: Russell “Rusty” Edward Payne II of Richmond, KY, Sarah Payne of Virginia, and Jennifer (Chuck) Johnson of Cynthiana, KY; his mother Carol Griggs; grandchildren, Zachary Payne, Alyssa Johnson and Gavin Johnson and Austin Mills; and sisters: Carol (Tom) Lenker of Plymouth, Deanna (Charles) Payne of LaPorte, Donna (Erik) Watts of Plymouth and Angela (Ed) Coad of Winamac. He was loved by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lanville, sister, Rachel Jimenez and step-father, Pete Griggs.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 8, 2017 from 11-1 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Tyner Cemetery with Military Honors by the Walkerton American Legion Post #189.
