Carolyn was born in Ishpeming, Michigan and was a true “Yooper”. She was the daughter of the late Laurence and Martha Nault. Carolyn was married to John D. Cummings and they recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Carolyn is survived by her husband and children, Kristen (Chris) Deutsch, Indianapolis, IN, Ann Jackson, Lansing, Michigan, Steven (Dana) Humphrey, Farewell, Michigan, Gretchen (Matthew) Lough, Indianapolis, IN, stepdaughter, Christine (Vern) Solis, Saline, Michigan and Addison Cummings, Breckenridge, CO, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Carolyn was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy L. Manty.
Carolyn had a long career as an educator. She was a teacher in the Hemlock and Freeland school systems and a Consultant for the Saginaw Intermediate School District. She then owned her own consulting company teaching teachers how to advocate on behalf of young children across the country. Carolyn was past President of the Michigan Reading Association, President of the Saginaw Bay Chapter Phi Delta Kappa, and a member of numerous other organizations throughout her career.
Carolyn was an inspiration to all of us. A good friend in so many ways and will be greatly missed. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Saginaw, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, hospice, or a charity of your choice in Carolyn’s honor.
