Doris Rozelle Howell, 94, passed away on February 2, 2017, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Van Alstyne, Texas, where she had been residing since December 21, 2016.

Doris was born in Anna, Texas on January 28, 1923, the daughter of Archer C. (Arch) Howell and Frances Powell Howell. She was born at home at a house still standing next door to where she had been living for many years. She lived most of her life in Anna, raised by her mother after her father's death when she was six years old, with much help from her aunt, Miss Decer Powell. Doris graduated from Anna High School in 1942.
Music was important to her after she learned to play the piano from Mrs. S. J. Smith, whom she replaced as pianist, and later, organist at the First Baptist Church. Doris never married, but she lived a happy life with her closeness to many loyal and supporting friends and her fondness for the many cats that had been companions throughout her life. Doris is survived by a sister and a brother.

Services will be at the Scoggins Funeral Home chapel in Van Alstyne on Sunday, February 12 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation at 1:00 P.M., prior to the service.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Collin County Meals on Wheels, 600 N. Louisiana St, McKinney, TX, 75069-3960.
