Gladys M. Fields, age 99, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Thornwald Home, Carlisle, PA.

She was born October 21, 1917 in Boiling Springs, PA to the late George Clayton and Minnie Elmira (Shambaugh) Strickler and was the widow of Terry C. Fields.

Gladys was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and the Thompson Business School, Harrisburg.

She retired from the US Army War College as a secretary after many years of service.

Gladys enjoyed volunteering at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was an avid knitter, making many shawls for the military and local churches.

Gladys enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her lady friends.

She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her loving family.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, the Old Bellaire Chapter #375, Order of Eastern Star, the Boiling Springs Golden Agers, NARFE, and AARP.

She is survived by a nephew, of Carlisle; a niece, of Mechanicsburg; a great-cousin, of FL; and many great and great-great-grandnieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by: her sister, Martha M. Aulthouse; two brothers, Lawrence and Lester Strickler; and a niece, Doris Herr.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Joseph L. Kugle officiating.

Burial will follow at Westminster Cemetery.

There will be a visitation on Friday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, PA.
