Martha (Bunkey) Burgoyne Harper, born on October 16, 1930, passed away peacefully after years of struggle with COPD on January 11, 2017. She was preceded in death by her father Caleb B. Burgoyne, Sr., her mother Alice Merritt Burgoyne, and sister Alice Ann Williams. She is survived by her husband Colonel Jack H. Harper, Jr (U.S. Air Force Ret.), brother Caleb B. Burgoyne, Jr. (Carolyn), and sister-in-law Dale Stuckey, and many nieces and nephews. Bunkey received a BS degree in Education from Mississippi State University in 1952. During her time at State she was president of Chi Omega Fraternity, and a member of many education and service organizations. She taught second grade and over the life of her marriage she accompanied her husband of 64 years to many military bases overseas and throughout the United States. Bunkey was dearly loved by family and friends and will be missed by many. A January 17 private family burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery.
