Gerald "Sonny" Thomas Riley, Age 88. Gerald passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at his home in Milton Freewater, OR.

Gerald was born November 24, 1928, in Elkton, OR, to James and Clara (Hancock) Riley. As a child Gerald was known to family and friends as Sonny. He was the youngest of four children; he had two sisters, Velma and Ellen; and a brother, Lester, all of which grew up in Elkton.

In 1950, he married Lois Joanne Listerud also of Elkton. In 1950, he went into the Army. He was stationed on Okinawa during the Korean War. After leaving the Army they settled in Winston, OR, and had two daughters, Sandra and Sharon.

Gerald worked for many years for Beckley and Thomas Construction Co. and others, operating heavy equipment. Later in life he drove log truck and chip truck before retiring.

Gerald divorced and in 1986, married Sandra Kelley Key. They lived in Union, Florence, Springfield, Chiloquin, and then moved permanently to Milton-Freewater. They both loved traveling and made many trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which was their favorite place to go. They also loved riding his motor cycle and taking trips on it all over the United States. He very much enjoyed having a vegetable garden and growing flowers.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Nickel (Mike) of Roseburg; his sister, Ellen Schnabel of Elkton; grandchildren, Ian Nickel, Daniel Nickel, Jamie Johnson, all of Roseburg, Tara McEachern of Salem, and John Holland of Portland; six great-grandchildren, Mackenzye, Ashley, Reilly, Austyn, Adam and Connor; and numerous nieces and nephews; also, close friends Dale and Lindsey who watched over him and helped him whenever he needed it.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Holland; sister, Velma Binder; and brother, Lester Riley and wife Sandra Jean Riley.

At his request there will be no services and will be laid to rest in Elkton, OR.
