William “Billy” F. Ely, 79, of Oley, passed away February 3, 2017 in Penn State Health / St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He was the husband of Barbara J. (Adam) Ely, who passed away March 20, 2011.

Born in Wanamaker, Lehigh County on February 17, 1937, he was a son of Annie A. (Hartman) Ely of Kutztown and the late Stanley A. Ely.

William was a member of Frieden’s Lutheran Church, Oley.

He was employed over 20 years as a rebar man with Weber Steel Construction, Kutztown; retiring as a foreman in bridge construction.

William was later employed part-time by Richmond Township with the road crew until 2014.

He was a member of the Oley Fire Company, Bechtelsville Fire Company and the Gablesville GAA.

William was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, golfing and auto racing.

He had a stand at the Bally Flea Market for a number of years and loved going to other flea markets and auctions.

William was a part of the Ely Racing Team and was a fuelman with their micro sprint team.

He was also a flag man with the Oreville Kart Club.

William is also survived by four sons: Jeff A. Ely, of Oley; Terry L, husband of Roxanne (Willman) Ely of Boyertown, Randy W. Ely of Ruscombmanor Township and Greg S., husband of Lisa L. (Lopresto) of Muhlenberg Township.

There are 6 grandchildren: Jessica (Ely), wife of Jimmy Stitzel; Brent, husband of Tiffany Ely; Andrea (Ely), wife of Randy Missimer; Stephanie (Wagner), wife of Shane Venard; Zachary Wagner and Travis Ely and 5 great grandchildren: Katie, Jakob, Caleb, Holden and Holly.

William was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Ann (Ely) Wagner-Chesney on February 11, 2011 and a daughter-in-law, Debra (Carbaugh) Ely on December 20, 2006.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 8th at 10:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley. Viewings will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:00 am.

Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Twp.
