Mildred "Millie" McGriskin Washington died peacefully in her home on August 6th, 2016 in Redwood City, CA at the age of 83.
Millie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe; children, Mary Albitz, Joe II, E. Patrick, and Stephen, and 6 grandchildren Dewayne, Joseph III, John, Gemma, Ellen, and William.
Millie was born on October 9th, 1932 in Manhattan, New York to Grace and Quintus McGriskin. She graduated from Congregation de Notre Dame Villa Maria high school in 1950. She went on to attend and graduate from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 as a Registered Nurse. She married Joseph Washington in August of 1958. After their wedding they moved to San Luis Obispo where Joe earned a degree in engineering. After Joe's graduation in 1961, they moved to Redwood City.
At the age of 46, she completed her Bachelor degree in Health Science at San Francisco State University in 1979 and went on to earn her Masters degree in 1983. Millie was accomplished at home making skills and designing and making costumes. She was a fiercely loyal and faithful mother and wife who never wanted to leave the party.
She loved music from the 1940's, her job with the Red Cross, sewing and performing with The Claypipers, and her parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:30am, September 10th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with a reception to follow.
