Ruth Turner Raines, 88, of Demopolis, went to be with the Lord February 3, 2017 at her residence.

She was born January 7, 1929 in Needham, Alabama to the late George Westley and Eva Broadhead Turner. Mrs. Raines was a retired LPN who was employed by the late Dr. Ivan Parker, M.D. of Butler, Alabama. She later worked at Holifield Clinic and after retiring in 1985, joined her husband in their family business Demopolis ACE Hardware. In 2000, she retired from the family hardware store.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband James A. Bethany; her infant son Randal Alvin Bethany; and 2 brothers Eldridge and J.V. Turner.

She leaves behind her husband Wallice Raines; daughter Tamyla B. James ( Paul ) of Demopolis; sons Danny J. Bethany ( Shirley) of Needham, Ken Raines ( Michelle) of Fairhope, and Kyle Raines of Foley; 9 grandchildren Angela Brown ( Mark ), Kelli Presley ( Doug ), Amanda Bovis ( Michael ), Mary Ruth Parr ( Joe ), Paul James, IV, Andrew Raines, Ashley Raines, Justin Raines, and Emily Raines; and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral service for Mrs. Raines will be Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Demopolis. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 until 2:50 and the service will begin at 3. The Reverend Carl Williams will officiate and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel will be directing. Burial will be Monday, February 6, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Brightwater Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Joe Parr, Paul James, Michael Bovis, Steve Wimberly, Travis Turner, Mark Brown, Doug Presley, and Justin Raines.

Honorary pallbearers will be The Hugh Lloyd Sunday School Class, and the employees of Southern Care Hospice and Chu Clinic both in Demopolis, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask memorials please be made to First Baptist Church 401 South Strawberry Avenue Demopolis, Alabama 36732.
