HAROLD JAMES (JIM) IRVING

Harold James (Jim) Irving, age 76 years, 11 months and 19 days, passed away on October 19, 2010 at the Circle of Life Legacy Lodge in Chariton surrounded by his family. Jim was born on October 30, 1933 in Marion County, Iowa to Walter C. and Nellie Lois Askren Irving.

He grew up in the Marion/Lucas County area. He attended school at the Marion County School and Melcher-Dallas School.

Jim was united in marriage to Margery Helen Anderson on February 21, 1956 in Princeton, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Michael Dean, Deborah Joanne, Cynthia Louise and Laura Jean. Marge and Jim raised their four children in the Chariton area and were blessed with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In the early years, Jim enjoyed racing stock cars in Chariton and Knoxville. He drove for Stone & Sons, was employed at Maytag, E & D Vault Company and finally retiring from Hy-Vee in 1998 after 24 years service. Jim enjoyed traveling to horse sales with his friend Short Chandler. Jim and Marge took several vacations with their friends, Short and Dorothy Chandler.

Jim was a family man. He loved his family very much and his family respected and loved him very much too. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy. He loved to brag abut each one of them.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; son-in-law, Randy Norman; his parents; brothers, Bart, Bill and Dick; brothers-in-law, Don Peterson, Norman Fitzgerald, Ralph Anderson, Bill Geagley, Glenn Maxwell, Peanie Pack and Wayne Anderson; sisters-in-law, Zody Anderson, Dorothy Pack and Helen Anderson; several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim is survived by his children, Mike (Debbie) Irving of Lucas, Debbie (Clarence) Dyer of Chariton, Cindy Norman (Scott Hall) of Eldon, Mo., and Lori (Mike) Graves of Chariton, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl (Audrey) Irving of Earlham, Iowa; Sam (Donna) Irving of Chariton and Dave Irving of Russell; sisters, Veda Peterson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Violet Greenslade of Walnut Creek, Calif.; Della (Floyd) Storm of Chariton; and Jane Fitzgerald of Williamson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at the Fielding Funeral Home. Officiating was Emery McDonald. Honorary bearers were Jamie Ryan, Chris Dyer, Wendy Irving, Dusty Dyer, Joe Lamb, Maggie Jones, Zoie Graves, Carrie Early and Stacie Hall.
